Preparing team India for IBO
The Biology Cell is responsible for the selection and training of the student team to represent India at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). The IBO is an annual competition for high school students from across the globe. The selection, training, and participation at the IBO is a five-stage process. Designing and developing challenging theoretical and experimental problems in various areas of biology is a major component of the program. The Indian team of four students is selected after several rounds of selection with stage 3 being a ten-day-long residential Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) held in HBCSE. The student participants attending the OCSC camp are exposed to various lab areas and are oriented to carry out experiments using various instruments to perform experiments in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Plant Sciences, Animal Sciences, and so on.
Beyond Olympiads
In an attempt to spread awareness and give an opportunity to more high school students and teachers, the various resources developed for the Biology Olympiad program are used regularly in teacher and student training programs organized by the Biology Cell.
OLYMPIAD TEACHER EXPOSURE CAMP
The Biology Olympiad Exposure camp is organized annually, usually in the months around September – November. This camp is aimed at exposing biology teachers to the various aspects of the Biology Olympiad Programme and how they can incorporate these problems into their teaching-learning methods.
